Soul Bringer Chapter 15: Assault in Amarillo
Early the next morning, Emeraldblade and her friends gathered everything they needed for the long road trip ahead. In addition to the essentials they brought with them when they traveled to Earth via the Grimoire, such as extra clothes, they also packed several other necessities, such as their weapons and a modified GPS that Engineer had created to help them reach Louisville in the fastest time possible, as well as a portable teleporter for them to use in case something went awry. Sniper meanwhile took out the camper van to gas it up at a nearby gas station, whilst doubling the trip as a run to gather various on-the-go items, such as snacks, drinks, and other supplies for the long haul that awaited them. When the time came, everyone except for Engineer and Heavy boarded onto the makeshift RV, with Sniper at the driver’s wheel of the cabin, with Vaggie seated next to him followed by Emeraldblade at the opposite window. Moxxie and Millie meanwhile entered the back area of the van

That evening, Lady Emeraldblade and Vaggie returned back to the hotel, with the members of I.M.P in toll. The newly formed team of six gathered in a private room to discuss a plan to rescue the mercenaries, defeat Verosika, and find out where Charlie was being held. “Okay listen up,” Vaggie lectured the team, “We have less than a week to arrive in Louisville, Kentucky for this helicopter race, otherwise Emerald and I forfeit the demon duel…and we become Verosika’s sex slaves for life.” “Harsh,” Blitzo remarked, “But that’s a rather tame demon duel compared to the one I had with her a while back.” “You’ve been in a demon duel before?” Emeraldblade asked. Blitzo nodded, “We got into one after she took the parking spot to our headquarters for herself, and turned our workplace into her hangout. The duel was simple, we went up to Earth where me and my team had to kill more humans than she and her posse could seduce and have sex with. We had the upper hand, until Verosika performed

“AAAUGH!!!” Vaggie screamed out, pounding her hand on a nearby counter top as Emeraldblade, joined by Angel Dust and Husk, looked on in shock. The fallen angel had been ranting over the botched surprise attack since she and Emeraldblade had returned to the hotel. “That fucking bitch! Our plan was fool proof,” Vaggie continued to complain, “Yet she somehow knew we were coming.” “She saw you in the front row during the concert,” Emeraldblade explained. Vaggie glared at her furiously, “I know that!” “Look, I know you’re mad Vaggie, but you need to calm down.” “The girl’s right babe,” Angel Dust seconded, “You really need to take a goddamn chill pill.” “Calm down?!” Vaggie vented, “That slut just tricked us!” “But we do have a clue to stopping her.” Emeraldblade added. Vaggie’s frustration turned to confusion, as did the other demons standing nearby. “Clue? What are you talking about?” “During the concert, Verosika sang a song about how much she loathed some guy by the

Friday had arrived without haste, and both Lady Emeraldblade and Vaggie prepared for a surprise attack on Verosika Mayday in the hopes that she may know where Charlie Morningstar was being held. That day, Vaggie led Emeraldblade to the lobby, where she trained the female warrior about what to expect when confronting Verosika. “Alright Emerald, I want to test your skills against my own.” Vaggie explained, “Verosika is not a person you want to trifle with alone, so it’s best you have a sparring session with me to prepare yourself for the fight. Emeraldblade nodded, “What weapon do you specialize in? Mine is the greatsword.” “I stick to a spear that I used during my time as an exorcist, but I do have a few other tools up my sleeve,” Vaggie answered. “So do I,” Emeraldblade countered. “Well then, let’s just see how well you can handle a former henchwoman of hers,” Vaggie finished. The two women equipped their weapons and began sparring. Vaggie rushed at Emeraldblade with her

The concert wasn’t being held for a few days, so Lady Emeraldblade and her friends decided to bunk down and wait at the hotel in the meantime. Lucifer and Vaggie agreed to host the group as honored guests during their stay, all the while trying to find a way to obtain tickets to gain entry to the event. During that time, Emeraldblade and the mercs met several of the other hotel guests and staff. For starters there was the resident adult film star Angel Dust, whose harsh and witty demeanor gained the Spy’s liking. Both of them were often times seen lounging around the hotel, smoking one of Spy’s signature cigarettes. Angel Dust occasionally tried to make advances on Spy, which the latter politely but annoyingly declined. And then there was Husk, the front clerk and barkeep. Do to his love for booze, it was no wonder that Demoman took an instant liking into the former Overlord (which he later came to learn), the two would often times drown themselves in alcohol (including

The team of five fell down a bottomless hole for what felt like hours, screaming in terror as they descended. After a while though, some of them become bored of falling… “Holy crap this goes on forever,” Scout noted, almost amusingly. “Come on I don’t have all day.” Spy complained, whilst looking at his watch. Suddenly, as though on cue, the bottomless hole finally ended, and suddenly Spy collided with an unfamiliar surface. “Oof, well at least I’m in one piece,” he breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly, the Scout landed on top of him, pressing his torso into the ground. “Thanks for breaking my fall pally,” Scout “thanked” Spy. Demoman suddenly followed and landed on top of the Scout, crushing him under his weight. “Thanks mate!” Following the pattern, Medic landed on top of the Demoman, causing him to faceplant on the Scout’s body. “Danke Kamerad!” Medic thanked his friend. Finally, Lady Emeraldblade was the last to land, with Medic being the one unfortunate enough to act

Engineer bolted down into the bunker, locking the security door behind from any possible threats or intruders. He regrouped with the other mercenaries and Lady Emeraldblade inside the break room, where they were contemplating what went wrong. “What a disaster.” Spy bemoaned his team’s performance. “Now now, calm down, we just had a setback that’s all,” Medic tried to reassure him. “Yeah, a MAJOR setback.” Scout pointed out. Spy turned towards Lady Emeraldblade with a stern expression on his face. “You imbecile! What were you thinking?!” Spy chastised her, clearly beginning to have second thoughts about teaming up with the female warrior. “Hey, I didn’t expect Merasmus to surprise us like that, let alone kidnap Soldier.” She protested in response. “The girl’s right mate,” Sniper agreed, “None of us expected that.” Everyone turned towards Spy with a look of annoyance, realizing that Sniper was right, he relented. “Ugh…you have a point Emeraldblade,” he conceded, “But how are

The light suddenly faded away, afterwards Lady Emeraldblade, alongside Soldier and Demoman found themselves back in Cheesman Park, albeit in the vicinity of the Romanesque pavilion. “We did it mates!” Demoman cheered his partners on. “Save the celebrations Demoman,” Lady Emeraldblade told her friend, “We need to keep our guard up, as Merasmus could still be lurking about.” Suddenly, several small portals materialized above them nearby, and out of them came the other six mercenaries. One by one, each one poured out onto the grass below. “Perfect timing men, it’s good to see you all in one piece.” Soldier happily replied upon the reunification. “So, did you three win?” Scout asked. “Affirmative kid,” Soldier answered, “As a matter of fact we beat the crap out of Merasmus at his own game. It seems that the wizard is now done for.” Suddenly a blood-curling scream broke the festivities, as soon after Soldier stopped boasting, his former roommate-turned enemy returned back to

The light suddenly subsided as strange, twisted carnival music began to play. Upon regaining her vision, Lady Emeraldblade noticed that she was seated inside a bumper car. She looked around and noticed that the eight mercenaries were also at the steering wheel of similar looking bumper cars. As she and the mercs were trying to figure out what was going on. Merasmus’ disembodied voice began to speak. “Now my old adversaries, let’s see how well you fair at a game of Bumper Car Soccer” he laughed. “A game of soccer? Sounds simple enough.” Scout replied. “Oh, but looks can be deceiving…” Merasmus remarked, “For you see, you will be facing my Malfested army in this game!” Suddenly, a group of Malfested appeared in similar looking bumper cars that matched those the mercs were using, only they were a different color. “First team to score 3 goals wins! Let the game…BEGIN!” Merasmus ordered, causing a colossal soccer ball to fall from the air above. The mercs, as well as the

For the rest of the night, the mercs prepared for their mission to locate and defeat Merasmus. Sniper even took the van into a nearby town to gas it up for the long haul and gathered snacks and on-the-go cereal containers that they would need to keep him, Engineer, Medic, and Lady Emeraldblade from starving to death; he also made sure to bring a few glass jars for a more…strategic purpose.
